Welcome to the Salerin Wikia
This wiki is a definitive guide to the fantasy kingdom of Salerin, detailing everything from the country's history to its diverse geography. Intended to be a catalog of my worldbuilding rather than a collaborative project, this wiki is meant to detail every element of this medieval fantasy realm. Salerin is meant to be a generic fantasy realm, used by me for D&D campaigns, in addition to being a creative exercise for me. Once again, this is not a collaborative project, but merely a way for me to record my notes.
What is Salerin?
Salerin is a medieval fantasy world, about the same size as real-world Alaska, located in the southeastern edges of its continent. As of now I have no plans to detail the surrounding countries beyond their names and basic geographies. Divided into various counties, Salerin is meant to be a generic medieval fantasy setting, compatible with the classic D&D monsters. Salerin is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy wherein the head of state is a king or queen, a title which is given to the firstborn child of the previous king and queen upon their deaths.
The geography of Salerin is diverse, with the southeastern regions along the coast comprising gentle lowlands, and the terrain gradually rising is you go north. The Altavish Mountains, which run along the entirety of Salerin's eastern border, are tall and impenetrable. The Green Mountains bisect the country west-east. The interior of the country is mainly hilly deciduous forests with many lakes and rivers. The country gets much more arid in the north, with the northernmost regions entirely flat grasslands. Humidity increases in the west, as the western edge of Salerin almost becomes a jungle.
The city of Cheyheath is the economic and political capital of the country, being home to nearly half a million people. It is built alongside the shores of Lake Dolohor, the largest body of water in the eponymous Dolohor County. The seven counties of Salerin are quasi-independent subdivisions with their own governments, however all counts and countesses swear fealty to the king or queen of Salerin. Each county has its own designated capital city that are almost always the most populous city in the county.
This wiki very frequently employs the use of photographs of the real world. Unless specifically noted, almost all of these images come from the excellent and very amazing Wikimedia Commons, which posts images that are only free to use. The description of each image will show its real-life counterpart as well as the original author on the Commons. If you're looking to breath some life into your world and make the landscape look and feel more real, I highly recommend using images from sites like the Wikimedia Commons.
Note on Editing
This is not a collaborative project. Because the people at Wikia insist there be no private wikis, I'll have to make do with this. Needless to say, all pages will be restricted and all unsolicited editing or page creation will be dealt with swiftly; by me removing it. Why? Well, I have created this wiki only out of necessity; there are other wiki tools out there, but Wikia seems to be the easiest to use, so I am using it only for that reason. If there were other options, I would use them. I never envisioned this to be a collaborative project -- so don't get fooled on thinking it is.
